Enrico Battaglin (Lotto-NL Jumbo) wins stage 5 Giro d Italia.

Enrico Battaglin (Lotto-NL Jumbo) wins Giro d' Italia stage 5 atop Santa Ninfa with a powerful strong sprint finish to the line.
Race leader Rohan Dennis (Bmc Racin

retains his pink jersey.

The Italian had far more power and speed than Giovanni Visconti in the sprint after his Bahrain-Merida teammate Domenico Pozzovivo had tried to split the select the climb.

How stage 5 unfolded

The second day in Sicily again included a series of rolling hills, but with the stage distance only 153km and the serious climbs in the second half of the day, the ride to
Agrigento and its storied Valley of Temples have a long association with big-time cycling, having hosted the World Championships in 1994, as well as the Grande Partenza of the 1999 Giro. Santa Ninfa, on the other hand, makes its debut as a stage town, as the Giro visits the province of Trapani for the first time to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the devastating Valle del Belice earthquake of 1968, which killed 231 people.
